Abstract

This study discusses some interchange types which have not been used in Viet Nam, including their advantages and disadvantages for the application according to local conditions. The authors make surveys about the geometry, flow and some parameters of traffic flow at Nga Tu So intersection in Ha Noi to analyze the advantages and the drawbacks of the existing intersection, then the study presents two suitable types of interchange for Nga Tu So intersection. Traffic situation has been analyzed in order to show significant impacts in comparison with the existing one. In addition, through application of suitable interchange types, some recommendations are presented for applying in urban areas of Vietnam including Ha Noi with the purpose of reducing congestion. However, should have to analyze particularly in geometry, traffic flow of each situation before choosing the most suitable types of interchange.
