Study on proper asphalt concrete mixture in the extreme weather conditions of the North Central Region

Abstract

The phenomenon of rapid deterioration of asphalt pavement subjected to heavy traffic volume in recent years in Vietnam in general and in the North Central Region of the country in particular has made the urgent need to study comprehensively the factors affecting the behavior of asphalt concrete surface according to weather conditions in each region. One of the factors is the effect of asphalt concrete gradation. Despite the recent guidelines issued by the Ministry of Transportation on the construction of asphaltic concrete pavement in order to prevent the prerementioned rapid deterioration, there are still controversy arguments. By experiment research, the paper will provide evidence that the proper asphalt gradation adapts to extreme environmental conditions in the North Central. The result is a scientific basis that helps regulatory agencies, design and construction firms make asphalt concrete reference and make the right decisions.
