Effect of densified silica fume with different fineness and rice husk ask on properties of high performance concrete

Abstract

In this study, superplasticizer dosage, compressive strength and chloride permeability of high performance concrete (HPC) containing different ground densified silica fume (SF) were tested to evaluate the effect of fineness of densified silica fume on the properties of concrete. The properties of concrete containing rice husk ash (RHA) were also compared to those of concrete containing SF to evaluate the possibility of replacement of SF by RHA. The results showed that increasing the fineness of SF by grinding enhanced workability, strength and chloride permeability resistance of concrete. Concrete containing RHA possesses comparable workability and strength compared to concrete containing well-ground densified silica fume. Using SF or RHA with suitable fineness can improve the properties of high performance concrete.
